Virtual Salomon Spring Trail Series

Great Glen Trails

1 Mount Washington Auto Road

Gorham, NH 03581

Thursdays, May 7th - June 25th, 2020

Participate Virtually!

This spring, the Salomon Trail Running / Walking Series is at your doorstep.

Due to current restrictions set to mitigate the risks of COVID 19, we invite you to participate in a virtual 8-week series with the Great Glen Trails running / walking community. This series is JUST for FUN!

We hope this series will support our dedicated running / walking community during this challenging time by providing an incentive to get outdoors, get some fresh air and commit to a healthy lifestyle. Because participants will choose their own distance and terrain, this is a non-competitive series.

The series is for all ages and abilities. Sign up to run / walk on any day of your choice throughout the week, from Thursday to Wednesday, for 8 weeks (May 7-June 25).

Each week, you'll receive a link to "edit your registration" which will ask you to log your mileage (not kilometers) for your series run/walk and an option to add your time.

We encourage you to also submit photos, a quick story or observation from your run / walk, your elevation or your strava segment if you are using a GPS watch.

We'll be awarding a prize every week based on a random (perhaps quirky), non-competitive category. Everyone who reports a run/walk for that week will be eligible.

If restrictions are lifted, we hope to be able to add live events at Great Glen while continuing with the virtual series. There would be a separate registration for events at Great Glen.

We also hope to be able to offer a potluck BBQ on the last Thursday of the series, June 25, at Great Glen. Details will be announced if this gathering is possible.

Paint Flowers & Windows (Outdoors) w/ Amy Brnger

Outdoors @ Jackson Art Studio

Ridge Rd
Jackson NH

*registration will close June 22.
We have changed this class to take place outdoors with flowers, windows and natural light!
Combining windows, landscapes, and flowers is exciting!  Learn about value contrast, composition, and decision making about what to emphasize or edit, all while painting beautiful fall flowers, using broad and breezy brush strokes.

After a morning demo and color mixing discussion, participants will paint for the rest of the day.  Participants can expect to complete a painting, or perhaps even two.

Sat., May 16, 9am-4pm, $165 per/person (deadline for sign up-May 11)

SUPPLY LIST:

BRUSHES

Bring a variety of flats and filberts, your choice. Please have some that are ¼”-1” wide.

PAINT

Suggested Oil Paint Color List.  (I use Gamblin paints) You may choose your own brand, just don’t buy hues, buy the professional kind.  Student grade colors are very low in pigment and are frustrating when you mix.

  • Black suggestions:  Mars Black, Chromatic Black, Lamp Black, Paynes Grey
  • Titanium White
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium or Hansa Yellow Medium
  • Cad Red Light or Medium
  • Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Red
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Quinacridone Magenta is nice for certain pink and red flowers, but it is an option.

PANELS OR CANVAS

Two pre-gessoed canvas boards or pre-gessoed panels (1/4” or thicker-size between 11 x 14 to 12 x 16).  You can also get them at Michael’s. I prefer a very smooth surface, such as Ampersand Professional Panels, but certainly bring a surface that appeals to you.

EASELS

Supplied by Jackson Art

SOLVENT

Gamsol Odorless mineral solvent. (no other brands allowed in studio)

MEDIUM

Refined linseed oil (Gamblin makes this).  Small container.  We will make medium during workshop.

PALETTE

LARGE Paint Palette. I recommend a large 12 x 16 or 16 x 20. Buy the rectangular version, paper or wooden (if you have another type you like, that's fine).  We have some extra ones that you can buy or use, but please let me us know in advance.

OTHER THINGS

Paper towels or shop towels—one big roll.

(2) 8 oz glass containers with wide lid (or you may have your own containers for solvent and
medium already). For your solvent and medium. Old salsa, peanut butter, relish jars are great.

Metal Palette knife for mixing paint. You want one with a metal end that is around 3” long –not a tiny or oddly shaped knife.

Gloves—I buy latex free gloves at Rite Aid or CVS.  I highly recommend using gloves.

An old shirt or apron to protect your clothing.

Newspapers or cloth for the back of your car to transport paintings home.

Lunch and drinks. Lunch can be ordered out or you can pack one. Coffee & tea for sale at studio for $1.

Cancellation Policy: We ask that you to give us three weeks notice if you need to cancel for a full refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. Cancellations should be made by phone by calling (603) 387-3463. This provides us the opportunity to fill the space. We are sorry, but we cannot give refunds or issue credits for missed classes or no shows.

Jackson Fireworks Display

Jackson Village Park

Main Street

Jackson, NH 03846

Join Jackson Village as they light up the sky in celebration of the upcoming Independence Day Celebration.  Jackson has a reputation of putting on the best area display of fireworks for many years.  We want to thank all our sponsors of these great fireworks starting with the Town of Jackson Selectmen, Jackson Fire Department, Jackson Police, Lisa Gardner Author and friend, the Karlsson family, and many more.

For best viewing grab a seat on the southside lawn of the Snowlflake Inn (thanks to Gary & Sue for their invitation)... just please be sure where ever you watch our display please carry out what you carried in!

Haven't seen it yet but I hear the display can be seen from the Jackson Falls area.  Check it all out on Sunday, June 28, 2020!

Fireworks usually go off around 9 PM... depending upon weather and other factors it could be closer to 9:15 PM.
