The Leadership MWV class develops a project each year and then raises the funds to support it as part of their learning experience for board service in the future.
The class of 2018's project is:
THRIVE MWV, "A funded partnership program allowing individuals to access and explore advanced career opportunities throughout the Mt. Washington Valley"
THRIVE MWV APPLICATION
STUDENT DEBT RELIEF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
STUDENT ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR APPLICATION
This project hopes to build on STAY MWV's Student Debt Relief scholarship, SAU 9's Strategic Plan and Fryeburg Academy's Internship Program by identifying students between the ages of 16 and 19 who have not chosen a traditional college track as they plan for their post-secondary education .
This group has been identified as the most likely to STAY and make their home in the MWV. However, to entice this group to STAY opportunities must be made available and support systems provided., The Leadership class has identified the following support systems and will continually add to them where appropriate:
- Stipends to defray the cost of certification, exploratory courses, civil service exams, registration fees, etc.
- The development of apprenticeship, internship and job shadow opportunities within the school systems identified and outside of school.
The class participants will be reaching out to SAU 9 and MSAD72 staff who work in the Vocational, Alternative, Technical programs and guidance departments to assist them in identifying up to 10 students from each school for this first year.
Individuals and parents of the target audience are encouraged to download the application for consideration as well.
Once this pilot has been filled the class will work with the Thrive MWV participants in determining their interests, developing a stipend request, mentoring, providing introductions, holding special sessions to build the confidence one needs to pursue a career opportunity in the MWV.
