North Conway, NH – The Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce (MWVCC) will present their 103rd annual meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort.  Chamber members, elected officials and guests will gather to review how the Chamber has advanced the local business environment and impacted the community during the previous year. The event combines educational workshops, reports on the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce’s success last year and plans for 2015-16, and plenty of opportunities for socializing and networking at a cocktail hour, silent auction and dinner.  Additionally, two very special Mt Washington Valley volunteers will be honored with the White Mountains Treasures Award.

The day starts with an Energy Panel discussion, presented by ENH Power from 2:00-3:30pm in the 10th Mountain Room, Red Jacket Mountain View Resort. With winter coming, electricity supply costs will be going up again beginning late 2015 through spring 2016, resulting in higher electricity bills for residents and small businesses. To understand the increases and what Valley residents can do now to reduce their electricity bill, ENH Power has put together a panel of electricity-related experts. Panelists and topics will include:

• Competitive Electricity Supplier, Emile Clavet, Co-founder of Electricity Maine, will address what to look for when shopping for an electricity supplier.

• Energy Auditor, Stacey Sand of Go Green Energy Audits, will present rebate programs to off-set appliance, lighting and equipment upgrades.

• Electricity Retailer, Chris Miller, Manager of Rockingham Electric - Northern NH, will talk about energy-efficient lighting options

• Foam Insulator, Roland Berthium of North Country Spray Foam, will present a case study of how they reduced their electricity bill.

The annual meeting will get underway at 4:00pm with a review of the past year and presentation/discussion of plans for 2015-16 marketing programs, presented by Janice Crawford, Executive Director of the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and Melody Nester, Assistant Director of the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce.  Additionally, a full review of the chamber’s financial records will be presented by Kim Tibbetts.

The annual meeting presentations will be followed by a Social Hour along with a Silent Auction, filled with everything from products to services to gift certificates donated by Mt Washington Valley Chamber members.  This is one of the biggest fundraising events for the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce each year.

A special dinner will begin at 6:00pm. All those attending will enjoy a four-course dinner, and entertainment by comedian Andrew Long.  Additionally during dinner, the Mt Washington Valley will present its annual White Mountains Treasures Awards.  This year two special volunteers will be honored with the White Mountains Treasures Award:  Phyllis Sherman of Sherman Farms in East Conway and Audrey Vorperian of North Conway.

Phyllis Sherman of Sherman Farms in East Conway, NH has been an active community member in East Conway, Conway and Fryeburg, ME. She was a dedicate participant in her children’s Conway School activities and is still involved in activities at John Fuller Elementary School for her grandchildren.  Phyllis has served on numerous boards including the Town of Conway Zoning Board of Adjustment, Current Use Board, New Hampshire Advisory Board of New Hampshire Agriculture, Carroll County UNH Extension Advisory Board and the 4H Club.  Innovation is much the Sherman’s way since 1964, from collaboration with neighbor farms, sharing of equipment and labor, to the adoption of new technologies before being widely used. Although retired in name only, Phyllis is busy with family and hobbies while delivering meals on wheels for the Gibson Center to her friends and neighbors.

Audrey Vorperian of North Conway and her husband Zaven moved to the Valley in 1964 to be Directors of YMCA Camp Nellie Huckins in Freedom, NH. Together, they ran the camp for 25 years while raising their family in North Conway. Audrey instituted a scholarship program at Camp Huckins for all Carroll County girls ensuring that any and all could attend camp if they desired no matter their financial situation. Approximately 30-percent of the girls received a full scholarship. When any school called and said a local girl needed some time away from home at camp Audrey made it happen somehow. In the Camp Huckins off-season, Audrey volunteered at John Fuller Elementary School as a teacher’s aide for over 20 years. Although Audrey is 86 years young she has been a volunteer for the Eastern Slope Ski Club for over 50 years and is the longest serving member. She is also a long time member of the Pequawket Foundation and an active member of the Connie Watson Davis Committee.
