Mystery Book Club

White Birch Books Mystery Book Club

The Mystery Book Club meets at White Birch Books on the second Thursday of every month. A small group, discussion books range from historical mysteries to contemporary thrillers. Books are usually picked a couple months in advance, but sometimes the group goes crazy and lines up books for several months. As with all of our groups, the Mystery Book Club is open to anyone interested and can be a great place to meet fellow readers. We’ve seen wonderful friendships form and grow while discussing murder and mayhem – as it should be.

The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte

Thursday, May 11, 7 p.m.

We are celebrating our 25th Anniversary here at the bookstore so we decided to do a little time traveling back to 1992, when the store first opened to read one of the hot books of that year!

A provocative literary thriller that playfully pays tribute to classic tales of mystery and adventure.

Please join The Valley Originals during the month of May in supporting End 68 Hours of Hunger! It’s Local’s Season (Mud Season) and The Valley Originals are embracing it by celebrating Spring and locals The Valley Originals way: by donating back to our community together with you!

END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER

Is a private, not–for-profit, effort to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some school children experience between the free lunch they receive in school Friday and the free breakfast they receive in school Monday.

LOCAL NEEDS

We currently pack and deliver 135 bags every week to all the elementary schools in SAU 9 and SAU 13 as well as Conway Head Start. We created "food closets" at KMS and KHS that students can access as needed.

The program is 100% volunteer run and every cent raised or donated goes to buy food!"

Our school district has embraced this program in the effort to support children and their families.  Our valley community once again has stepped up in the name of children.  The Valley Originals are donating a percentage of posted daily specials in an effort to help this worthy cause. Big shout out to our valley!!!

So please celebrate Spring with The Valley Originals and Dine to Donate Daily!

In 2016, The Valley Originals donated $316,000 back to our MWV Community with your help!  When you dine at a ‘VO’, you know your money is staying in the community, helping your friends, neighbors and local charities/non-profits.  The Valley Originals could not do this without your support, thank you very much!

The Valley Originals is a non-profit organization, as is End 68 Hours of Hunger.

Avenue Q

M&D Playhouse is pleased to present Avenue Q, the fifth production in our 2017 series of eleven plays about relationships.  Music and Lyrics by Jeff Marx, Book by Robert Lopez and Jeff Whitty.  Based on an original concept by Robert Lolpez and Jeff Marx. This production is directed by Christopher Bellis.

Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart.

The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.  He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to finds jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere.  Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children's show; a place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned.

Avenue Q ios presented Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, May 18- June 3 at Your Theatre, Willow Common, 1857 White Mountain Highway, North Conway.  All performances begin at 7:30 PM

To reserve seats please visit our website at www.mdplayhouse.com or call (603) 733-5275.

Enjoy food and beverages from our Culture Cafe during the performance.  The Cafe opens 45 minutes prior the the performance with light snacks, coffee, soft drinks, wine, beer and liquors available.

Here's what reviewers elsewherehave said about Avenue Q:

"The beauty of Avenue Q is the fact that every single person in the audience...will relate to something on stage. Most of us are familiar with 'Sesame Street' and will appreciate the obvious parodies... And seeing humans living in harmony (or disharmony) together on the same street joyously awakens the child within.  But then, you are reminded how adult you have become, adsorbing musical numbers about pornography, homosexuality, racism and the quest we all undertake on a daily basis - finding your purpose in life."                                                                               NewYorkTheaterGuide.com

End 68 Hours of Hunger with The Valley Originals

CALLING ALL LOCALS AND FUTURE LOCALS

Please join The Valley Originals during the month of May in supporting End 68 Hours of Hunger! It’s Local’s Season (Mud Season) and The Valley Originals are embracing it by celebrating Spring and locals The Valley Originals way: by donating back to our community together with you!

EVERY DAY DURING THE MONTH OF MAY

Each Valley Original Restaurant will feature a ‘VO’ Special on their menu and the proceeds of these specials will go directly to End 68 Hours of Hunger, making it easy and delicious to give back to our community!

Thursday Night Book Club

White Birch Books Thursday Night Book Club

Our Thursday Night Book Club meets every fourth Thursday of the month and is open to any and all readers. Our discussions are good, varied and – for the most part – stay on point. But we have a lot of fun, too. Stop in, try us out, meet some new friends and read some great books.

Postcards by Annie Proulx

Thursday, May 25, 7 p.m.

We are celebrating our 25th Anniversary here at the bookstore so we decided to do a little time traveling back to 1992, when the store first opened to read one of the hot books of that year!

From the bestselling author of The Shipping News comes Postcards, the tale of the Blood family, New England farmers who must confront the twentieth century -- and their own extinction. As the family slowly disintegrates, its members struggle valiantly against the powerful forces of loneliness and necessity, seeking a sense of home and place forever lost.

Saturday, May 27

We are celebrating our 25th Anniversary here at the bookstore so we decided to do a little time traveling back to 1992, when the store first opened! What was on the best-seller list 25 years ago? What was our staff reading back then? Or better yet, what were we wearing while we were reading?

Well if you stop in on Saturday, May 27 you just may find out the answers! We will be celebrating all day and offering a 25% discount on 25 selected staff favorites, giveaways for adults and kids, fun activities AND more.

In the age of online everything including buying books we are really happy to say we have been in business in the Mt. Washington Valley for 25 years and we look forward to serving our community for another 25 and beyond!

Each Valley Original Restaurant will feature a ‘VO’ Special on their menu and the proceeds of these specials will go directly to End 68 Hours of Hunger, making it easy and delicious to give back to our community!
