Mystery Book Club

Mortal Fall by Christine Carbo

Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 7pm

The Mystery Book Club meets at White Birch Books on the second Thursday of every month. A small group, discussion books range from historical mysteries to contemporary thrillers. Books are usually picked a couple months in advance, but sometimes the group goes crazy and lines up books for several months. As with all of our groups, the Mystery Book Club is open to anyone interested and can be a great place to meet fellow readers. We’ve seen wonderful friendships form and grow while discussing murder and mayhem – as it should be.

Art Along The Trails at Jackson Ski Touring Center, Feb. 11, 2017

Two abstract painters, Rebecca Klementovich from Bartlett, NH, and Kristen Pobatschnig, from Conway, NH, will display art with nature on February 11, 2017 at Jackson Ski Touring Center in Jackson. Instead of a white walled gallery, in its place are walls made from snow, hemlocks, and birches, all places for paintings to hang from.

Klementovich and Pobatsching are a painting duo who call themselves the “Femme Fatales of the North.” They are working to bring more attention to female painters in northern New Hampshire, especially abstract artists.

Viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $5 on foot, or a $21 trail pass for those on skis or snowshoes (less for seniors and children).

84 Charing Cross Road

M&D Playhouse is pleased to present 84 CHARING CROSS ROAD, the second production in our 2017 series of eleven plays about relationships.

Written by Helene Hanff and adapted for the stage by James Roose-Evans, this wonderful show is a dramatization of business letters between a young struggling writer in New York and an antiquarian book store in London. In a sense, these are also love letters. The play takes place over a twenty year period, beginning in 1949 when Helene Hanff (played on Broadway by Ellen Burstyn) first writes Marks & Co. and ends in 1969 with the death of Frank Doel, the delightfully dusty supplier of so many old volumes to Helen.  This production is directed by Ken Martin.

84 CHARING CROSS ROAD is presented February 16- 26, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM with Sunday matinees at 4:00 PM at

Your Theatre, Willow Common, 1857 White Mountain Highway, North Conway.

To reserve seats please visit our website at www.mdplayhouse.com or call (603) 733-5275.

Enjoy food and beverages from or Culture Café during the performance.  The Café opens 45 minutes prior to the performance with light snacks, coffee, soft drinks, wine, beer and liquors available.

Here’s what reviewers elsewhere have said about 84 Charing Cross Road.

“what gives 84, Charing Cross Road its universal poignance is what's happening between the lines: the story of a person who puts aside something precious until it's too late to claim it, a story that sends a strong jolt of recognition…and lingers in the memory far more potently than many plays with more eventful story lines..”

 Albert Williams, Chicagoreader.com
