Where's Waldo?

White Birch Books, North Conway, NH

FIND WALDO ALL OVER TOWN IN THE MONTH OF JULY!

The Find Waldo Local Campaign begins on Sunday, July 1, at White Birch Books and the White Mountain Independents, a network of locally owned and operated stores in the Mt. Washington Valley.

The event, sponsored by Candlewick Press, leads participants on a scavenger hunt through their towns’ business districts on a search for the elusive, red-and-white-stripe wearing picture book character.

This year, as in the past, shoppers who spot Waldo at participating local owned businesses in July become eligible for prizes throughout the month. The celebration then concludes with a closing ceremony or wrap-up party at White Birch Books at the end of the month. Participants will get a “bingo” card with all of the participating businesses listed and can get started from the bookstore on July 1st.

Once we get closer to July 1st we will start listing all of our fellow businesses on our website and FB page or just look for the White Mountain Independent blue flags while driving around the valley. We will be posting photos of where Waldo is in town on our website, FB and Twitter throughout the month. It’s a great way to visit some of our local businesses in a really fun way!
Where We Spend Shapes Where We Live—SHOP LOCAL!

Mystery Book Club

White Birch Books, North Conway, NH

White Birch Books Mystery Book Club

The Mystery Book Club meets at White Birch Books on the second Thursday of every month. A small group, discussion books range from historical mysteries to contemporary thrillers. Books are usually picked a couple months in advance, but sometimes the group goes crazy and lines up books for several months. As with all of our groups, the Mystery Book Club is open to anyone interested and can be a great place to meet fellow readers. We’ve seen wonderful friendships form and grow while discussing murder and mayhem – as it should be.

Seek The Peak Hike-a-thon for Mount Washington Observatory

Mt. Washington

Founded in 2001, Seek the Peak is the nation’s premier hiking event. Presented by Eastern Mountain Sports, Seek the Peak will draw over 500 hikers and their families from across the eastern seaboard and beyond to the White Mountains this July.

Seek the Peak is a classic participant-driven fundraising event. Once hikers register for Seek the Peak, they are encouraged to solicit donations from family and friends in support of their efforts. On Seek the Peak Saturday, they hit the trail with the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington or seek alternative hikes.  Once they complete their hike, they are treated to a tremendous awards party with a dinner, a retail expo and thousands of dollars in prizes.

Seek the Peak hikers are not world-class climbers or professional athletes. They are everyday folks from across the country, sharing a passion for the outdoors and a love for the mountains. Often times, their climb to the summit during Seek the Peak is their very first time on Mount Washington and they use the event to achieve that tremendous personal goal. Other hikers use the event each year to spend quality time with friends and family on a one-of-a-kind adventure. Still others do the event specifically to support the legendaryMount Washington Observatory. In all cases, they are rewarded for their efforts.

Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center at the Jackson Property for weekly nature walks. Sunrise Drive

Mt. Washington Auto Road

Sundays - June 24, July 29 & August 26, 2018
The Mt. Washington Auto Road opens early on three Sundays every summer, allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mount Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast.
Due to the popularity of these sunrise opportunities, we recommend not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend time waiting at the Toll House due to traffic.

The State Park building on the summit will be open with limited food service on all three of these mornings.
